Threads of Belonging ~ Designing for Memory & Motherhood

There I was, a former California girl travelling the surroundings of what I now call home ~
Berlin passing by in golden-grey rhythm ~
a mother and designer quietly gathering threads of inspiration between city corners and the sea.

I wandered through kilo vintage shops the way I always have ~ searching for textures that whisper stories, for colours softened by time. I have loved second-hand pieces since I was a little girl. Saturday mornings with my mother, hands tracing the rails of a church charity shop, pretending to hide my face as we walked in ~ yet secretly in heaven.

Those mornings taught me how to see ~
to love what has already lived, and to imagine what could come next.

That same seeing has become the soul of how I design.
At GRECH & CO., every piece begins with a question of timelessness.
Can this be loved by a boy or a girl?
Can it be passed down, season after season, without feeling like a leftover from another time?
Can it belong anywhere ~ to any age, any story, any home?

I think of colour as memory ~ the way a clay tone feels warm in winter and sun-kissed in summer. The way fern and sand carry through the years ~ unchanged, yet always new. It’s why we use palettes that cross seasons, so that what was made five years ago can still live beautifully beside what is made today.

Design, to me, has never been about chasing trends ~
it’s about tracing belonging.

The same way those second-hand dresses once held someone else’s story, our pieces are meant to hold a child’s growing years, a mother’s memories, a family’s rhythm. And when their time with us is done, they can move on again ~ loved into another life.

That’s the heart of sustainability as I understand it ~
not perfection, but continuity.
Not consumption, but care.

And perhaps that’s the motherhood in it too ~
the quiet devotion to create something that lasts,
something that feels like home in every pair of hands it touches.
